The Iranian photographer Gohar Dashti has asked us to share the following message. She exhibited her work Fragments of Memory at the La Gacilly-Baden Photo 2023 festival. During her visit to Baden, we got to know her as a dedicated artist who has already made a name for herself internationally.

Dear all!
I hope this message finds you well.

In these past days, as the war continues to affect people across Iran, I have been thinking about how I might offer support, even in a small way, through my work.

This project takes the form of a limited edition photograph. The image shows a woman with her hands clenched, pressing her head into green bushes, as if nature is the last place left that can hold her. For me, it speaks to a moment of exhaustion and surrender, but also to something deeper, a quiet return to nature as a place of refuge, when everything else feels uncertain.

I originally made this photograph some time ago for an exhibition in Tehran, centered on women and their experiences of violence. Today, it feels even more urgent and close.

If this work resonates with you, your support or simply helping to share it within your network would mean a great deal.
