These are the magical moments
in which reality
surprises us again and again.“

Reiner Riedler

Austrian photographer Reiner Riedler reflects on the exhibitions of last year’s festival in photographic scenes.

Reiner Riedler moves between documentary and conceptual methods. As a documentary photographer, he is interested in social phenomena, always searching for the fragile beauty of human existence with its longings and abysses. In his conceptual works, he questions the essence of photography and explores its limits.

In 2021, he decided to work as a film director and produced his first feature-length documentary, ‘The Good Years’, which was shown at several international film festivals and won awards in 2024.

Riedler’s work has been shown in over a hundred exhibitions in numerous countries at photo festivals, galleries and museums worldwide – including the Centre Pompidou in Paris, the Schirn Kunsthalle in Frankfurt, the SLE Gallery in NYC and the TIFF in Toronto. He has photographed 11 books to date and received numerous prizes for his work, including the Lafabrica Photobook Award, the Prix L’honneur Levallois, the Special Prize of the Bavarian Hospice and the Grand Prix of Kaunas. Reiner Riedler is a member of the Künstlerhaus in Vienna.
