OUR TREES AT HOME

@ Michel Bouvet

The year 2021 was named the Year of Biodiversity. Therefore, the La Gacilly-Baden Photo Festival will also celebrate the biodiversity of our planet. The World Conservation Congress of the International Union for Conservation of Nature (IUCN) should have taken place in Marseille in mid-June 2020, followed by COP15 of the UN Convention on Biological Diversity in Kunming, China, in October. However, with the ongoing pandemic, the calendar is now disrupted and these two landmark events for the protection of our ecosystems have been postponed to 2021. We have therefore adapted to these circumstances and in 2021 we will be presenting exhibitions created by some of the world‘s best photographers to demonstrate the importance of our planet‘s biodiversity and to help reconnect people with our natural world.

In addition, the festival has not only asked all the exhibiting photographers to provide us with their „favourite tree image“ for an exhibition in Rathausgasse, but also invited the photographers of Lower Austria to direct our gaze to the trees of our homeland, to the trees of Lower Austria, in the magic and drama of the seasons, in any case in a very personal way. The tree as a symbol of life.
