Today is World Chimpanzee Day – a day that commemorates Dr Jane Goodall’s arrival in Gombe and how profoundly her research has changed the way we think.
Jane showed the world that chimpanzees are sentient, social and intelligent beings. Yet her life’s work was never just about research. It was always also a call to us all to take responsibility and take action.
The Jane Goodall Institute Austria continues this legacy to this day: it protects chimpanzees, cares for rescued animals, strengthens local communities and campaigns for the conservation of their habitats.
This work needs support. Because only together can we help to protect chimpanzees and their habitats in the long term.
If you too would like to mark World Chimpanzee Day with a special gesture, sponsor a chimpanzee from a sanctuary – for example, from the Tchimpounga Chimpanzee Rehabilitation Centre, the Jane Goodall Institute’s largest sanctuary – or join the BeJane Community. In this way, you’ll help carry on Jane Goodall’s legacy and provide long-term support for the protection of chimpanzees and their habitats.
As Jane always used to say:
💚 “Each and every one of us can make a difference.”
Happy World Chimpanzee Day!
