Culture of Solidarity

Festival La Gacilly-Baden Photo at the
35th Month of Photography in Bratislava.

Photographic highlights from the La Gacilly-Baden Photo Festival took centre stage on Tuesday, 4 November 2025, at vernissages held as part of Photography Month in Bratislava.

Each year, the La Gacilly-Baden Photo Festival shines the spotlight on a different geographical location, putting the Conditio Humana up for discussion. This year, it is Australia and the so-called New World. The world’s best photographers present visual narratives that describe the beauty of our planet as well as its problems.

Just like the La Gacilly-Baden Photo Festival, which took place from 13 June to 12 October 2025 in Baden near Vienna as Europe’s largest photography festival, the Month of Photography in Bratislava presents these themes in its exhibitions.

In the exhibition Joel Meyerowitz „Through the Cities“

This year marks the sixth year of our regular collaboration with Festival La Gacilly-Baden Photo, a festival whose director, Lois Lammerhuber, generously supports the goals of Photography Month. Following previous photo blocks on South America, Scandinavia and Eastern Europe, this year we are presenting Australia with Bobbi Lockyer and Anne Zahalka. In the works on display, viewers will discover the theme of identity, but also the environment – stories that play out on the border between drama, black humour, fiction and reality. In addition, the extensive presentations by internationally renowned photographers are complemented by a retrospective of the work of Joel Meyerowitz, a pioneer of colour photography whose motto is ‘Life is colourful’. The exhibition invites viewers on a journey through American cities, showing how they have changed over the years and revealing the spirit of a country and its people,“ says Václav Macek, festival director of Photography Month.

Tereza Janák Tomešová, Václav Macek, Silvia Lammerhuber and Lois Lammerhuber open Bobbi Lockyer’s exhibition „Origins“.

Culture of Solidarity is the umbrella term for the exhibitions that our festival shows outside Baden. Since its inception eight years ago, we have been cooperating with the Month of Photography in Bratislava and showing three highlights each time,’ adds Lois Lammerhuber, director of the La Gacilly-Baden Photo Festival.

Lois Lammerhuber, Anne Zahalka and Václav Macek open the exhibition „Fragments of Wildlife“

The Month of Photography Bratislava takes place throughout November at 19 indoor and outdoor locations in Bratislava. Fifteen of the 26 exhibitions are free to visit. All information can be found in the bilingual bulletin, which you can download here.
