As part of Culture of Solidarity, the La Gacilly-Baden Photo Festival presented the Global Peace Photo Award exhibition in Bratislava from 3 to 30 July 2024. The opening ceremony of the exhibition at Rybne námestie Square was held on 10 July 2024 at 18:00 hrs.
Participating in the exhibition opening were (from left to right): Lois Lammerhuber, Silvia Lammerhuber, Alexandra Mühlbachler (Head of Sponsoring Vienna Insurance Group VIG), Juraj Mičko (Director of Marketing and Communications KOOPERATIVA poisťovňa, a.s. ), Silvia Nosková Illášová, Václav Macek, Marko Popovič and Sandra Diepenseifen.
Sandra Diepenseifen, Counsellor and Director of the Austrian Cultural Forum Bratislava, recalled in her speech that the prize was created in memory of Hermann Alfred Fried, who was honoured with the Nobel Peace Prize in 1911 for his magazine „Die Waffen nieder” (Lay Down Your Arms): „Die Waffen nieder is an eternally valid peace statement that remains incomparable in its expressiveness.“
This photo competition has been organised worldwide for 12 years now. The jury chooses from more than 22,000 entries from around 130 countries. The Global Peace Photo Award recognizes and promotes photographers from all over the world whose pictures capture human efforts towards a peaceful world and the quest for beauty and goodness in our lives. The award goes to those photographs that best express the idea that our future lies in peaceful coexistence.
A true visitor magnet
The flow of visitors was evaluated by an external company using anonymous mobile phone data and the result is very pleasing: 66,473 visitors viewed the exhibition during the 28 days, an average of 2,374 per day!
We would like to thank everyone involved and all visitors for this great success!
