Zhen Shi is a Franco-Chinese photographer. Born in Shandong in northern China, she took up photography after studying in Paris, where she now lives and works. Quickly earning recognition, she regularly exhibits in France and China and has been published in several renowned magazines. The Kwei Yih project is deeply rooted in the photographer’s personal experiences. Her approach, which is midway between an aesthetic quest and a storytelling exercise, challenges the notions of identity and memory in the borderlands of western China and her native region, whose industrial fabric is slowly disappearing.
