The ROTLICHT. Festival for Analog Photography is an internationally oriented photography festival, now taking place for the fifth time in Vienna.

From November 21 to 30, 2025, the festival will once again bring together the international photography community in Austria’s capital. With a diverse program ranging from the main exhibition at the Atelierhaus of the Academy of Fine Arts Vienna (formerly Semperdepot) to numerous additional exhibitions, workshops, talks, photo walks, and evening events including concerts and parties, the festival offers a vibrant platform for creative exchange and artistic discovery.

ROTLICHT is a meeting place for people of all ages and experience levels who wish to explore and celebrate the creative potential of analog photography. From amateurs and hobby photographers to art enthusiasts and professionals, the festival welcomes a broad and diverse audience.

At the heart of the festival lies the main exhibition in the Säulenhalle of the Atelierhaus der Akademie der bildenden Künste Wien, showcasing the 20 winners of the international Open Call. This year’s theme is “Life After Extinction?” An international and independent jury evaluated 332 submissions from 43 countries and selected the 20 winning projects. The Grand Prix goes to Canadian artist Ella Morton; 15 winners come from Europe, three from the Middle East, and one from Australia. ROTLICHT is delighted that most of them will be present at the festival opening.

The Festival Selection this year is dedicated to the work of Ukrainian photographer Oleksandr Glyadyelov, who has uniquely documented the history of his country.

As in previous years, ROTLICHT 2025 will extend far beyond its headquarters: numerous exhibitions in galleries, off-spaces, and other venues across Vienna will enrich the festival program with diverse artistic interpretations and perspectives—both from solo artists and from collectives. Workshops, talks, and events complete the broad spectrum, once again attracting an international audience to Vienna.
