Pulitzer Prize winner Renée C. Byer dedicated her most important work to date to those who have to live on one dollar or less per day. Her pictures tell of existence in extremis at the edge of survival. The people in Byer’s strong images share their struggles, joys and dreams for the future with her. Often without much hope for changing their own fate, they dream of a better life for their children. Byer’s honest appeal for more awareness and for promoting change is more urgent and topical than ever. The Sustainable Development Goals, ratified in September 2015 by all 193 countries of the United Nations, guide our efforts to eradicate poverty and hunger by 2030.
