Grand opening of FOTO ARSENAL VIENNA

On 21 March at 7pm, FOTO ARSENAL WIEN – the City of Vienna’s new exhibition space for international photography and lens-based media – will open its final home at the Arsenal.

Initiated by the City of Vienna in autumn 2022, FOTO ARSENAL WIEN will open up as a media competence centre for all facets of photography. As a hub, the institution anchors historical, national and international topics at the interface between the analogue and digital world, as well as between static and moving images.

From June 2023 to June 2024, the institution was located at a temporary location in the MuseumsQuartier in Vienna’s 7th district and is now moving into its own building on the Arsenal site in Vienna’s 3rd district. 

On around 1,000 square metres of exhibition space, the FOTO ARSENAL WIEN presents up to 12 exhibitions a year, showing the full range of the medium of photography – a combination of young talents, undiscovered positions and internationally renowned artists.

With its own ‘Activities’ department, not only an extensive range of educational workshops for children, teenagers and adults is being created, but also the second mainstay of FOTO ARSENAL WIEN. For this purpose, separate seminar rooms and an analogue darkroom have been set up.

Festival La Gacilly-Baden Photo is pleased that photography has found a permanent and worthy home at Arsenal Vienna and invites all photography enthusiasts to attend the opening!
