Cewe Photo Award

OUR WORLD IS BEAUTIFUL

© Michel Bouvet

Once again, it is the declared aim of the La Gacilly-Baden Photo Festival to show works that make the values of the Festival even clearer and underline them. In the CEWE Photo Award, the Festival has found a partner who lives these values every day and makes them visible through the world’s largest photo competition.

The submitted photos not only show the beauty of the world, but above all its vulnerable sides that are worth protecting. Christian Friege from CEWE: „For us, sustainability is a continuous improvement process in the area of tension between economic success, environmentally compatible action and social requirements. All our sustainability activities are based on this triad and are part of our model for success.“

In a total of ten categories – People, Landscapes, Animals, Architecture & Technology, Nature, Sport, Travel & Culture, Cooking & Food, Hobby & Leisure and Aerial Photography – the incredible variety and internationality of motifs awakens the joy of photography. With more than 600,000 photos from over 170 countries – including around 30,000 photos from Austria alone – the CEWE Photo Award is the world’s largest photo competition.

Michel Comte takes over as President of the CEWE Photo Award jury for the first time. The Swiss gained fame as a fashion photographer: he has worked for Karl Lagerfeld, Armani, Chloé and Versace, among others. The passionate mountaineer and aviator works in particular on the topics of climate change and glacier melt. To this end, he photographs mountain landscapes all over the world from open helicopters, while paragliding or climbing, thus portraying the disappearance of glacier landscapes. Comte has also taken photographs in conflict zones and on behalf of the International Red Cross. His photographs can be seen in museums all around the world.

However, CEWE does not only pursue artistic purposes with the Photo Award: for each photo submitted, CEWE donated 10 cents to the SOS Children’s Villages worldwide.

The exhibition was produced with the support and know-how of CEWE.
